Business Insider, 1/1/0001 12:00 AM PST If you opened up the PayPal app over the weekend, then you likely noticed some changes as soon as it loaded. The online payments company has redesigned its app in reaction to the ever-increasing role of mobile technology in the world of e-commerce. In short, PayPal wants to give its users a better experience from the moment they open up the app. The updated app debuted on Friday. For starters, the home screen has been revamped to show a user's transaction details and allow the user to pay pending requests and send money to recent contacts. But perhaps the most notable change is the new hub that makes it easier for users to send and receive money from their friends and family. The personalized section of the app allows users to import contacts, which makes it simpler to give and get money. This is a smart but unsurprising move considering that mobile peer-to-peer platform Venmo processed more than $1 billion in payments in January, which blew away its previous record. PayPal also announced on its website that it has seen more than 100% growth in the number of P2P transactions within its app. Finally, PayPal has adjusted its in-store functionality to make it more user-friendly. Hungry for some Chicken Tikka Masala from your favorite Indian place in your neighborhood? You can order ahead through the PayPal app through its partners like Yelp Eat24 and just wait for the doorbell to ring. PayPal's focus on P2P functionality is yet another sign of the increasing power of financial technology (fintech) to disrupt the financial world. Considering the scope and reach of financial services around the world, the potential for the fintech revolution is enormous.
